Fiat Lux is a Latin phrase that means “Let there be light”. It is the command spoken by God in the book of Genesis to create the light of day. The phrase seems to carry with it connotations of magic and mysticism.

Fiat Developmentum is thus psuedo Latin intended to mean “Let there be software”. To outsiders software development can seem a bit mystical and magical. By borrowing from the well-known Latin phrase, the name “Fiat Developmentum” means to capture some of that feeling. Of course, the aim of the site is to demystify software development as much as possibly by discussing theory and providing practical advice.

Phillip Toland is a software architect whose experience spans everything from Ruby on Rails to Java and J2EE. His experience covers both client and server architecture and he is very interested in development process and design patterns. His focus is currently on development team dynamics and how process and technology combine to make a team successful.
